Sunday, December 29, 2013....the Feast of the Holy Family, Jesus, Mary and Joseph

We, as women, know very well the qualities it takes to be loving spouses, mothers, daughters, sisters, friends and members of extended families. As we honor the holy family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph today, let us take the words of the second reading and apply them to our own lives and ministry

Put on, as God's chosen ones, holy and  beloved, heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience, bearing with one another ........and whatever you do in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him" Reading 2  COL 3: 12-21

Sunday, December 22, 2013....4th Sunday of Advent

The fourth candle on the Advent wreath is now burning....a circle of fire, a circle of hope.  The waiting is almost over...let us follow the light just as the wise men followed it over two thousands years ago, so that we might find Mary, Joseph and the Infant Jesus, the Light of the World now waiting for us in the Manger on Christmas Day.

"Come Lord Jesus. Come and visit Your people. We await Your coming. Come O Lord"

December 15, 2013...3rd Sunday of Advent

The third Sunday of Advent makes us realize that the joyful feast of Christmas is coming ever closer. One of todays readings reminds us to be patient. Our knitting also requires patience....dropped stitches, a mistake in the pattern and the time it takes to finish our garments of love are sometimes frustrating! But the wait is well worth it...the outcome is a beautiful shawl filled with God's love and warmth.

"You too must be patient. Make your hearts firm, because the coming of the Lord is at hand"  JAS 5:7-10

December 8, 2013...2nd Sunday of Advent

On this, the 2nd Sunday of Advent, the sense of waiting and expectation increases. We must take time during this week to take a moment  for ourselves,  perhaps knitting a few stitches or sipping a cup of tea....letting peacefulness and quiet contemplation into our lives.

"They that wait upon the Lord, shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."  Isaiah 40;31
